iSORB IronMaxx™

iSORB IronMaxx is the house-brand iron desulfurization powder Interra Global supplies for dosing into anaerobic digesters, where its iron controls hydrogen sulfide at the source, before the biogas leaves the digester. It ships in 2,200 lb super sacks, and where dust-free handling is wanted it is dosed through Interra Global's automated powder-to-slurry dosing system. Interra Global reviews operating conditions and recommends a dosing approach when called on.

Product Description

iSORB IronMaxx HR10 is a powdered, crystalline iron(III) oxide hydrate, FeO(OH)/Fe₂O₃, developed for the North American market to control hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) in anaerobic digesters. Dosed into the digester feedstock, its iron precipitates hydrogen sulfide as iron sulfide, which leaves the digester with the digestate instead of entering the gas, so less H₂S reaches the biogas and the equipment downstream. IronMaxx is the house-brand powder in Interra Global's H₂S removal media line, alongside FerroSorp DGR.

Features and Benefits

  • High iron content, at least 55% on a dry basis, with a low level of non-iron byproducts
  • A dry powder, at least 98% dry matter, so little of each shipment is water
  • Suitable for most digester types
  • Dust-free, automated dosing available through Interra Global's Automated Powder-to-Slurry Dosing System
  • Powder and dosing equipment from one supplier, on one purchase order
  • Ships from warehouses in the United States

Typical Applications

The IronMaxx product data sheet describes it as best suited to highly mixed, efficient reactors. It is typically dosed into:

Sizes and Packaging

  • iSORB IronMaxx HR10 powder, 0 to 0.5 mm grain size

IronMaxx ships in 2,200 lb super sacks with a bottom drain valve. Other packaging is quoted on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is iSORB IronMaxx?

Interra Global's house-brand iron desulfurization powder for controlling hydrogen sulfide in anaerobic digesters, supplied as grade HR10. It is dosed into the digester feedstock, typically at biogas plants and wastewater treatment plants.

How does IronMaxx control hydrogen sulfide?

The iron in the powder reacts with hydrogen sulfide in the digester and precipitates it as iron sulfide, which leaves with the digestate. Less of the sulfur is left to enter the biogas as hydrogen sulfide.

How is the dosing rate set?

Feedstock composition, digester type, and current sulfide levels typically set the dosing rate. Interra Global reviews a digester's operating conditions and recommends a dosing approach when called on.

Does IronMaxx replace a gas-phase media bed?

It depends on the feedstock and the outlet specification the gas must meet. Dosing lowers the sulfide that reaches the gas; whether a bed of FerroSorp SK or SLH pellets is also needed downstream is assessed per site, and Interra Global reviews the operating conditions on request.

Is dust-free dosing available?

Yes. Where dust-free handling is wanted, IronMaxx is dosed through the Automated Powder-to-Slurry Dosing System, which doses the powder from bulk bags as a slurry under integrated controls. Whether the system suits a given digester is reviewed on request.

What other uses does the data sheet list?

The iSORB IronMaxx product data sheet also lists hydrogen sulfide removal from landfill gas and other gas streams, natural gas upgrading, and odor control. Interra Global reviews a stream's conditions and recommends a product when called on.

Does the data sheet list heavy metal content?

Yes. The iSORB IronMaxx product data sheet gives a limit and a typical range for each heavy metal it lists, measured on the total solids.

How should IronMaxx be stored?

It is typically kept in a dry, well-ventilated place away from food and animal feed, with opened packages resealed to prevent contamination and the oldest material used first.
