FerroSorp SK is a pelletized iron(III) oxide-hydroxide, FeO(OH), used for the desulfurization of gases and air. Loaded into a fixed or moving bed vessel, the pellets react with the hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) in the gas passing through them and hold the sulfur in the bed. When a small amount of oxygen is present, the iron sulfide converts to elemental sulfur and reactive iron hydroxide is restored, so the bed keeps capturing sulfur through many cycles before it is spent. Special granulating and drying methods in its production give FerroSorp SK high form stability, abrasion hardness, and reactivity. SK is one of the FerroSorp pellet grades in Interra Global's H₂S removal media line. TYPICAL APPLICATIONS FerroSorp SK is typically used to desulfurize high-humidity gas:
SIZES AND PACKAGING
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What is FerroSorp SK? A pelletized iron hydroxide medium for removing hydrogen sulfide from gas, supplied by Interra Global under product code FS24P-SK. It is loaded into fixed or moving bed vessels, typically for landfill gas and digester biogas. How does FerroSorp SK remove hydrogen sulfide? Hydrogen sulfide reacts with the iron hydroxide to form iron sulfide. With a small amount of oxygen present, the iron sulfide converts to elemental sulfur and the iron hydroxide is restored, so the same iron captures sulfur many times over before the bed is spent. Does FerroSorp SK need conditioning at startup? The FerroSorp SK product data sheet states that the pellets come pre-conditioned for CO₂ exposure at the factory, eliminating heat-up at commissioning and startup. How should FerroSorp SK be stored? For storage longer than two months, super sacks are typically kept out of the sun, and the oldest material is used first. What happens when the bed is spent? Spent pellets carry the sulfur they captured as elemental sulfur. The bed is changed out following the manufacturer's procedure, because spent media exposed to air can continue to react and warm, and the spent material is handled according to its safety data sheet and local rules. |
