FerroSorp® DGR

FerroSorp® DGR

FerroSorp DGR is the iron hydroxide powder Interra Global supplies for dosing into anaerobic digesters, where it controls hydrogen sulfide at its source, inside the digester. It is the powder form of FerroSorp, alongside the SK and SLH pellets, and it ships in 40 lb bags or 2,200 lb super sacks. Interra Global reviews operating conditions and recommends a dosing approach when called on.

Product Description

FerroSorp DGR is a powdered iron(III) oxide-hydroxide, FeO(OH), developed for the removal of hydrogen sulfide in anaerobic processes. It is the same iron raw material as the FerroSorp pellets, supplied as a fine powder with a high iron content. Dosed into the digester feedstock, it binds sulfur in the digestate before it leaves the digester as hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) in the biogas, which lowers the sulfide load on everything downstream. The iron sulfide that forms leaves the digester with the digestate instead of entering the gas. FerroSorp DGR is one of the two iron hydroxide powders in Interra Global's H₂S removal media line.

Typical Applications

FerroSorp DGR is typically dosed into anaerobic digesters producing biogas:

Frequently Asked Questions

What is FerroSorp DGR?

A powdered iron hydroxide for controlling hydrogen sulfide in anaerobic digesters, supplied by Interra Global. It is dosed into the digester feedstock, typically at biogas plants and wastewater treatment plants.

How does FerroSorp DGR control hydrogen sulfide?

The iron in the powder binds sulfur in the digester, so less of it leaves as hydrogen sulfide in the biogas. The iron sulfide that forms leaves the digester with the digestate.

How is the dosing rate set?

Feedstock composition, digester type, and current sulfide levels typically set the dosing rate. Interra Global reviews a digester's operating conditions and recommends a dosing approach when called on.

Does FerroSorp DGR replace a gas-phase media bed?

It depends on the feedstock and the outlet specification the gas must meet. Dosing lowers the sulfide that reaches the gas; whether a bed of FerroSorp SK or SLH pellets is also needed downstream is assessed per site, and Interra Global reviews the operating conditions on request.

Is automated, dust-free dosing available?

Interra Global supplies the Automated Powder-to-Slurry Dosing System, which doses iron powder from bulk bags as a slurry, dust-free and under integrated controls. Whether it suits a given digester is reviewed on request.

What other uses does the data sheet list?

The FerroSorp DGR product data sheet also lists hydrogen sulfide removal from landfill gas and other gas streams, natural gas upgrading, and odor control. Interra Global reviews a stream's conditions and recommends a product when called on.

Does the data sheet list heavy metal content?

Yes. The FerroSorp DGR product data sheet gives a limit and a typical range for each heavy metal it lists, measured on the solid content, along with the powder's manganese content.

How should FerroSorp DGR be stored?

It is typically kept in a dry location, with opened packages resealed to prevent contamination and the oldest material used first.
