VAV™ H₂S Scrubber Vessel

VAV™ H₂S Scrubber Vessel

A mobile H₂S scrubber vessel for biogas, landfill gas, and digester gas, loaded with FerroSorp H₂S removal media or other bulk media and set on a concrete pad or compacted gravel; rental options available.

Product Description

The VAV H₂S Scrubber Vessel is a mobile, roll-off vessel designed and built by Interra Global for hydrogen sulfide removal from biogas, landfill gas, and digester gas. VAV is short for Vacuum Adsorption Vessel: the vessel is tested to 29 inches of mercury vacuum and to 5 psig positive pressure, so it can operate under vacuum or at low positive pressure. Gas enters at the top through two 8-inch stainless steel inlets fitted with deflector plates, distributes across the full media bed, and leaves through two 8-inch outlets at the bottom of the vessel, so the bed loads evenly rather than channeling and more of the media is used before a changeout. The VAV675M holds 440 cubic feet of FerroSorp® H₂S removal media or other bulk media, 17,600 lb of FerroSorp SK in eight bulk bags at a full charge, and sets on a concrete pad or on firm, compacted gravel with no foundation or cement work.

Typical Applications

As a dry hydrogen sulfide scrubber, the VAV is typically used for:

Construction and Specifications

Model VAV675M-CRSS-36-8-B, from the product data sheet:

  • Vessel volume 675 cubic feet; internal media volume 440 cubic feet
  • 23 feet long, 8 feet wide, and 6.5 feet high; dry weight 13,500 lb, shipped without media
  • Transportable by roll-off truck or flatbed, with four lifting lugs and four heavy-duty wheels
  • Tested to 29 inches of mercury vacuum and to 5 psig positive pressure
  • All-steel construction, no fiberglass; shell of 1/4-inch carbon steel
  • Interior sand-blasted and coated with a corrosion, chemical, and chip resistant glass-flake epoxy; exterior finished to C3 with a UV-resistant urethane topcoat
  • Internal piping in 304 stainless steel: two 8-inch inlets with gas deflector plates and two 8-inch by 17-foot outlet pipes; 8-inch ANSI 150 flanged inlet and outlet connections, piped in parallel so each carries half the gas flow; two 4-inch ANSI 150 flanged condensate drains
  • Sectional, removable bar grating supports the media, with a clip-in, serviceable stainless steel screen over it
  • Three 36-inch hinged top manways, each with eight wing nuts and a 3/4-inch water port, and a hinged bulkhead dump door with a 12-point chain closure, safety latch, and safety chain; molded, serviceable EPDM gaskets
  • Safety decking and rail package available; made in the USA

Loading and Changeout

Fresh media loads through the three top manways from bulk bags, two bags per manway, raked level across the bed; the fill guidelines below cover the procedure. Spent media leaves through the dump door or is vacuumed out through the manways, the changeout guidelines below cover the handling of spent media, and the manway and dump door videos cover operation and maintenance. A larger media charge typically means fewer changeouts at a given gas flow. Before an order, Interra Global works from the site's gas flow and inlet H₂S concentration to estimate how the vessel and its media will perform; in service, it supports changeouts and troubleshooting on request.

Site Requirements and Mobility

The vessel sets on a concrete pad or on firm, compacted gravel or dirt; no foundation or cement work is required, and guide tracks or a guide channel keep it aligned to its piping when it is returned after a changeout. It ships horizontal on its wheels by flatbed, travels by roll-off truck, is designed to be removed and returned for media changeouts, and fits new installations and existing H₂S removal systems alike. Units are modular: a site that needs more capacity runs more than one vessel.

Rental and Supply

The VAV is available for purchase or rental; contact Interra Global for current rental terms. Interra Global supplies the vessel and its media together: FerroSorp H₂S removal media, typically FerroSorp SK, in the grade matched to the gas, or other bulk media on request, with pricing, availability, and lead time confirmed at quote. For sulfide control inside the digester itself, the ADS Powder-to-Slurry Dosing System doses iron hydroxide powder as slurry; both systems are described on the process equipment page.

Interra Global is the manufacturer: it designs, builds, and supports the VAV in the USA, so a biogas, landfill gas, or wastewater digester gas site sources its H₂S scrubber system and the media it runs on from one supplier. Interra Global's technical staff answer questions on vessel sizing, media selection, and changeout planning.
